Notes from the fogou

I've been indoors a lot

We're getting tendrils of the current heatwave up in Southern Maine (read: temperatures are climbing above 85 degrees Fahrenheit. The horror.). It's humid here, which is making my symptoms worse. If you don't know what symptoms are, it's when normal activities are impossible. I would love to go on a walk, or go get more electrolytes after rationing badly and running out (would make my day easier) but at the moment my life looks like moving from one room to another as the maximum threshold of physical activity.

My shower curtain is very picturesque. It's linen and cotton, and the print looks like an old fashioned woodcut illustration of big, fluffy clouds in black ink racing across a paper-white hillside. A view. From the kitchen I can see the entire neighborhood. Crows perch on the roof of a deep green oak tree, glancing furtively for seagulls. My neighbor is working on his deck, or something.

The kitchen is wide and has a tile floor, so it's the perfect place to stop for a movement break. Er, break from already not doing anything. A flirtation with the concept of activity. I do the yoga that someone thoughtfully designed for people who can't raise their arms, and it works. I feel more like myself.

If someone asked me what I've been up to, I wouldn't be sure what to say aside from what is typically considered polite. I wonder how I would explain that I largely live by my internal landscape, gauging whether it's an is my life slipping away from me day or a life is meant to be lived, every day I have the privilege of living my life day. The second one is more pleasant to cohabitate this body with and is usually accessible through a combination of sleep, eating properly, getting enough salt, fulfilling self actualization needs, maintaining optimal temperature conditions, and moving my body.

That's something I still need to do before it's time to play TTRPGs. I'll go to my group's favorite gaming spot tonight and eat pickles better than what I can find at the store. I get to game with some of my best people. My life can be lived.
